High above the Catalan capital, METT Barcelona has arrived as a new chapter for one of the city’s most iconic addresses. Opening in September 2025, the hotel marks Sunset Hospitality Group’s first property in Catalonia and the brand’s second in Spain, following the success of METT Marbella – Estepona. Perched on Tibidabo, it reimagines the legendary Gran Hotel La Florida, blending a century of history with a fresh, contemporary outlook.
A landmark reborn
Originally designed by architect Ramón Raventós in 1925, Gran Hotel La Florida has long held a prominent place on Barcelona’s skyline. To celebrate its centenary, the property has undergone a £15 million transformation, now reintroduced under the METT Hotels & Resorts brand. The project retains its architectural character while infusing modern Mediterranean design, offering a sense of both continuity and renewal.
The hotel features 70 rooms, spanning deluxe rooms, junior suites, and suites, all designed with fine materials and abundant natural light. Floor-to-ceiling windows and six panoramic terraces capture sweeping views of the city and the Mediterranean. With both an indoor heated pool and a striking infinity pool, METT Barcelona offers year-round spaces to relax.
Mediterranean dining concepts
Food and social spaces are central to the brand’s philosophy. At Albarada, seasonal Mediterranean cuisine takes centre stage, while La Vermutería 1925 revives the convivial spirit of Barcelona’s traditional vermouth bars. Guests can also enjoy the Pool Bar’s relaxed atmosphere or unwind at the Lobby Bar by Lladró, where pieces from the renowned Spanish design house add an artistic flourish.
These venues are designed as both destinations for travellers and gathering places for locals, reflecting METT’s “open house” philosophy. The hotel also includes a private club, ideal for exclusive celebrations, and meeting spaces with capacity for up to 80 guests.
