Red Sea Global has announced that Shura Island will begin welcoming its first guests this September, marking one of the most significant milestones yet in Saudi Arabia’s tourism transformation. Located at the very heart of The Red Sea destination, the naturally dolphin-shaped island has been envisioned as a central hub for leisure, culture and world-class hospitality.
In its debut phase, three internationally recognised hotel brands – SLS, EDITION and InterContinental – will open their doors, setting the stage for Shura Island to become a benchmark for luxury travel in the region. More than just a resort opening, this launch signals the beginning of a bold new era in regenerative tourism. It combines architectural innovation, sustainable practices and a curated lifestyle offering designed to rival the world’s most iconic island destinations.
Three world-class hospitality brands debut

The initial phase of Shura Island introduces a carefully curated selection of luxury accommodations. SLS The Red Sea brings 150 rooms and villas, including beachfront options, with the brand’s signature contemporary approach to hospitality. The property combines natural beauty with curated cultural and wellness experiences designed for discerning travellers.
The Red Sea EDITION offers 240 elegantly designed rooms, including 53 suites, alongside a comprehensive spa facility and multiple dining venues. The resort provides access to water sports and the island’s golf course, creating a complete luxury experience for guests seeking both relaxation and active pursuits.
InterContinental The Red Sea Resort completes the opening trio with 178 rooms and 32 suites across a five-star barefoot luxury concept. The property features five dining venues, spa facilities, and event spaces, with architectural design inspired by the surrounding coral reefs.

Shura Island introduces Shura Links, a championship 18-hole golf course that represents a first for the Kingdom. The course combines desert landscapes with lush fairways, creating spectacular views whilst maintaining sustainability as a core principle through innovative water management and eco-friendly practices.
The golf facility remains accessible to guests staying across all Shura Island resorts, as well as visitors from other properties within The Red Sea destination. The course design reflects the pristine coastal setting whilst offering a challenging experience for players of all skill levels.
Architectural vision meets environmental responsibility

The development of Shura Island follows an overarching design concept known as ‘Coral Bloom’. This approach draws inspiration from the surrounding coral reefs, ensuring that the resort architecture integrates seamlessly with the island’s natural environment.
Environmental considerations remain central to the Shura Island project, with the entire development powered by renewable energy. The engineering approach minimises environmental impact whilst maximising energy efficiency, aligning with Red Sea Global’s regenerative tourism principles.
John Pagano, Group CEO of Red Sea Global, explained the significance of the opening: “As the heart of The Red Sea, Shura Island represents everything Red Sea Global stands for: bold ambition, deep respect for nature, and a commitment to redefining tourism in Saudi Arabia and beyond.”
Gateway to a transformative destination

Red Sea International Airport serves as the primary gateway to Shura Island, positioned within three hours’ flying time of 250 million people. The airport already operates regular domestic and international flights, with Qatar Airways recently announcing direct services three times weekly from next month.
The island can be reached either by boat to the dedicated marina or by electric vehicle across the 3.3km Shura crossing, which includes Saudi Arabia’s longest internal bridge. This infrastructure connects Shura Island to the mainland whilst preserving the island’s pristine character.
Future expansion plans
The current opening represents only the beginning for Shura Island, with eight additional resorts scheduled to open in the coming months. These future properties will include Faena, Fairmont, Four Seasons, Grand Hyatt, Jumeirah, Miraval, Raffles, and Rosewood, eventually bringing the total to 11 world-class resorts on the island.
Once complete, Shura Island will offer guests comprehensive access to luxury amenities, high-end dining and retail, signature experiences, and cultural programming.
