Corinthia Hotels has officially opened Corinthia Rome, its first property in Italy, occupying the former headquarters of the Bank of Italy on Piazza del Parlamento. Set within a building completed in 1914 by architect Marcello Piacentini, the hotel introduces 60 rooms to the Campo Marzio district, one of Rome’s most historically layered and characterful neighbourhoods. The opening marks a significant moment in Corinthia’s ongoing international expansion.
The property was acquired by the Reuben Brothers in 2019 and has since undergone a multi-year restoration spanning 9,700 square metres across seven floors. Throughout the process, original features including marble panelling, frescoes and carved woodwork were retained and carefully restored, preserving the building’s architectural integrity. The result is an intimate, sixty-room hotel that sits comfortably within its surroundings rather than competing with them.
A historic site in Campo Marzio
The building housing Corinthia Rome was completed in 1914 by architect Marcello Piacentini and served as a major financial institution throughout much of the twentieth century. Its location places the hotel within walking distance of the Pantheon, the Spanish Steps and the political centre of Rome. The surrounding streets of Campo Marzio are known for specialist workshops, independent boutiques and galleries, forming part of the everyday fabric of the neighbourhood.

Design and accommodation
Corinthia Rome has been designed as an intimate hotel rather than a large-scale operation, with 60 rooms in total, including 21 suites. Interior design has been led by G.A. Design, introducing contemporary detailing alongside preserved architectural features. Guest rooms are defined by generous proportions, high ceilings and natural light, reflecting the scale of the original structure.
Several suites at Corinthia Rome are closely tied to the building’s past. The Theodoli Heritage Suite occupies the former council chamber and retains frescoes from the 1920s by Giulio Bargellini, with views across Palazzo Montecitorio. Other accommodations include townhouse-style Campo Marzio Suites arranged over split levels, and the Aurea Penthouse, a two-bedroom residence with terraces and balconies overlooking the city.
Culinary programme led by Carlo Cracco
The food and beverage offering at Corinthia Rome has been developed under the direction of chef Carlo Cracco, marking his first permanent culinary project in the capital. Working alongside executive chef Alessandro Buffolino, Cracco oversees three distinct venues within the hotel.
These include Ocra Bar, focused on drinks and light plates; Viride, the main restaurant drawing on contemporary Italian cooking; and Piazzetta, an all-day dining space located in the internal courtyard serving traditional Roman dishes. Each venue occupies a different part of the building, aligning the culinary programme with the architectural layout of Corinthia Rome.
Wellness within the former vault
The spa is located in the building’s original bank vault, repurposed as a dedicated wellness space. Facilities include three treatment rooms and two bathing pools, with therapies developed in collaboration with 111Skin and Seed to Skin. The concept draws on Roman bathing traditions while prioritising calm and privacy within the central city setting.
A new Italian chapter for Corinthia
The opening of Corinthia Rome forms part of a broader international expansion for Corinthia Hotels, following recent launches in New York, Brussels and Bucharest, with Corinthia Dubai also on the horizon. According to managing director Danilo Zucchetti, the hotel aims to engage with both international visitors and Rome’s local community, positioning itself within the city’s evolving hospitality landscape.
