Aman Rosa Alpina opens as Italy’s newest luxury alpine retreat

The reimagined property in San Cassiano blends decades of Italian hospitality with contemporary design

The transformation of a beloved Italian mountain hotel into a luxury retreat marks a significant moment for alpine hospitality. Aman Rosa Alpina has officially opened in San Cassiano, bringing together 85 years of family heritage with the refined aesthetic that defines the Aman brand.

The property’s journey began in 1939 under the Pizzinini family, who continue as co-owners alongside Aman Group. Hugo Pizzinini, the hotel’s managing director, describes the partnership as natural, citing Aman’s commitment to quiet elegance and respect for nature as aligned with the family’s values.

Jean-Michel Gathy of Denniston, a frequent Aman collaborator, led the comprehensive redesign of Aman Rosa Alpina. The approach honours the surrounding landscape through materials that speak to local craftsmanship – timber facades, dark metal accents, and artisanal details throughout the property. The 51 guest rooms and suites feature expansive balconies and floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the dramatic Dolomites scenery.

The most spacious accommodation, the Aman Suite, spans two bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, a separate soaking tub, and generous dining areas. Fireplaces feature prominently throughout the accommodations, creating intimate spaces that complement the mountain setting. The design philosophy prioritises the natural environment whilst providing contemporary comforts expected by discerning travellers.

Wellness facilities embrace the alpine environment

Aman Rosa Alpina’s two-level spa encompasses over 18,000 square feet. The centrepiece 65-foot heated outdoor infinity pool offers uninterrupted mountain views, whilst multiple indoor pools cater to families and fitness enthusiasts. Comprehensive hydrotherapy facilities include a Finnish sauna, steam bath, Jacuzzi, and cold plunge pool.

Seven treatment suites provide personalised wellness experiences, complemented by a dedicated hair and nail salon. The spa also houses two medical treatment rooms. A fully equipped gym and yoga studio ensure that fitness routines can continue seamlessly during alpine retreats.

Executive chef Gianluca Salvato leads Aman Rosa Alpina’s culinary programme, celebrating local ingredients and mountain traditions. Il Salotto pays homage to the original piano bar, serving daytime coffee and evening cocktails accompanied by live music and panoramic views. The space captures the convivial spirit that has defined Rosa Alpina for decades.

The Grill specialises in wood-fired preparation of seafood, meats, and artisanal pizzas, with the bistecca alla Fiorentina standing as a signature dish. During warmer months, the open-air terrace provides an ideal setting for alfresco dining. Come winter, Akari will debut as a Japanese-inspired concept featuring hot pot and sake service, adding international flavours to the mountain setting.

Year-round alpine adventures

The Dolomites provide an extraordinary playground for outdoor enthusiasts, and Aman Rosa Alpina ensures guests can access the region’s diverse activities. Summer offerings include guided hikes through natural parks, mountain biking adventures, and golf at the nearby Alta Badia course. The hotel’s concierge team coordinates experiences that showcase the area’s natural beauty whilst respecting environmental conservation.

Winter transforms the landscape into a premier skiing destination, with Aman Rosa Alpina providing dedicated Ski Butler service. Guests receive assistance with equipment and transfers to Dolomiti Superski, which encompasses approximately 745 miles of groomed slopes served by 450 lifts. Beyond skiing, activities include ice climbing, snowshoeing, and skating, offering diverse experiences for all skill levels.

Perfect timing for Olympic excitement

The opening of Aman Rosa Alpina coincides perfectly with anticipation for the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics in February 2026. This timing positions the hotel as an ideal base for experiencing Italy’s winter playground during this prestigious international event. The property’s proximity to Olympic venues adds another layer of excitement for guests seeking to witness world-class competition whilst enjoying luxury accommodations.

Nightly rates at Aman Rosa Alpina begin at €1,218, and reservations can be made directly through Aman’s website.
