Dubai records highest-ever tourism numbers in 2024

Emirate welcomes 18.72 million international visitors in groundbreaking year

The Dubai tourism scene marks a defining moment in the emirate’s history, as it welcomes an extraordinary 18.72 million international overnight visitors. This remarkable achievement, marking a 9% increase from 2023, demonstrates how Dubai continues to surpass expectations and redefine industry standards, solidifying its position as one of the world’s most visited destinations.

The record numbers in 2024 arrive at a pivotal moment as the emirate expands its offerings across hospitality, dining, and entertainment sectors. This growth aligns with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, positioning the destination for sustained expansion in the coming years.

The Dubai tourism growth has been supported by strategic infrastructure investments, including the expansion of Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC). These developments are creating more seamless travel experiences for international visitors.

His Excellency Helal Saeed Almarri, Director General of the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET), attributes the Dubai tourism record 2024 to the emirate’s innovative approach. “Our success stems from our commitment to creating exceptional experiences and our ability to evolve with global trends,” he explains, emphasising the importance of continued innovation.

He highlighted the city’s success in diversifying its tourism offerings across leisure, business, and family segments, which has helped attract visitors from both traditional and emerging markets. Under his leadership, DET has implemented strategic initiatives to enhance Dubai’s competitiveness, including digital transformation projects and sustainable tourism practices that have resonated strongly with modern travellers.

Collaborative industry approach

DET has established strategic partnerships with industry leaders, including Emirates, IHG Hotels & Resorts, and Hilton. These collaborations have been crucial in enhancing the visitor experience and showcasing Dubai’s diverse offerings to a global audience.

Looking ahead, Dubai plans to leverage emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and virtual reality to create more personalised experiences for visitors. These innovations, combined with ongoing infrastructure developments, position the emirate to continue setting tourism records in the years to come.

The implementation of smart city initiatives and digital transformation projects further enhances Dubai’s appeal to tech-savvy travellers seeking seamless, connected experiences. With investments in sustainable tourism practices and cutting-edge visitor attractions, Dubai is well-positioned to maintain its upward trajectory in visitor numbers while setting new standards for global tourism excellence.
