Amanolu is the name Aman has given to its first destination in the Maldives, a 52-key resort with a collection of 16 branded residences scheduled to open in 2028. First announced in 2024 as Aman Maldives, the project now carries a name that combines Aman, the Sanskrit word for peace, with Olu, inspired by the water lily found throughout the Indian Ocean region.
Long associated with serenity and renewal, the water lily rises from still water, and the name ties the resort to the calm lagoons that surround it. Amanolu sits within Vaavu Atoll, one of the least developed and most secluded corners of the archipelago, where reefs and channels have long made the atoll a favourite among divers.
Vaavu has the smallest population of any administrative atoll in the country, with only a handful of inhabited islands, and its waters are home to Fotteyo, the largest reef in the Maldives. The channels around Alimatha are known for night dives among resting nurse sharks, and the atoll is a regular stop on liveaboard routes through the central Maldives.
A private island for every Amanolu residence

Each of the 16 Aman Residences occupies its own island within Amanolu. Some are oriented towards a single shoreline, facing either the sunrise or the sunset, while others extend from coast to coast, with a beach on each side and uninterrupted views from dawn to dusk. This relationship with the changing light and the sea is central to how the homes have been planned.
Every residence has five bedrooms, with indoor and outdoor living spaces that open directly onto a private beach, a 25-metre swimming pool and a personal berth. Dedicated staff accommodation is built into each home, allowing a residence team to work discreetly on site, and owners remain connected to the wider resort with full access to its dining, wellness and recreation.
Where the lagoon comes indoors
The architecture at Amanolu takes its cues from the white coralline beaches and turquoise lagoons of the atoll. Simplicity guides the design, drawing the surrounding landscape into everyday life and keeping the line between inside and outside deliberately soft, in keeping with the design language Aman has followed since its first resort, Amanpuri, opened in Phuket in 1988.
An island for wellness, another for adventure

Amanolu will be spread across several islands, each with its own purpose. A dedicated wellness island will be home to an expansive Aman Spa and the brand’s signature Spa Houses, while a separate activity island has been designed for recreation and exploration. Both will be open to hotel guests and Residence Owners alike.
Diving, snorkelling and watersports will form part of daily life, with marine excursions taking guests beneath the surface to explore the reefs of the surrounding atoll. Dining will include venues drawn from Aman’s global culinary concepts, alongside family facilities and gathering spaces spread across the resort.
Counting down to 2028
Amanolu is scheduled to open in 2028, although Aman has yet to confirm an exact date. The Maldives debut adds to a growing list of new projects for the brand, which has also unveiled Amansanu, a ranch retreat in Texas Hill Country, and Amangati, a superyacht set to sail in the Mediterranean from 2027. Further details on Amanolu, including a confirmed opening date, are expected to follow.
