How Charge Cars brings new energy to classic automotive design

This British company is revolutionising the luxury electric vehicle market

In the evolving landscape of electric vehicles, Charge Cars are innovating differently, seamlessly blending nostalgic design with cutting-edge technology. This London-based pioneer has captured the imagination of automotive enthusiasts worldwide with their ambitious vision to reimagine classic cars for a sustainable future.

The journey of Charge Cars began in 2016, when a team of visionary engineers and designers set out to create something unprecedented in the automotive world. Their flagship creation, the ’67, isn’t merely an electrified classic – it represents a complete reinvention of what’s possible when heritage meets innovation.

A masterclass in modern engineering

Mark Roberts, the company’s chief creative officer and former McLaren designer, brings an exceptional level of detail to Charge Cars’ flagship model. “We’re not just creating an electric vehicle; we’re crafting an experience that honours the past while embracing the future,” he explains, highlighting the company’s commitment to authenticity in their modern interpretation.

The ’67 by Charge Cars showcases remarkable engineering prowess with its quad-motor setup, delivering an impressive 536 brake horsepower (bhp). This power plant enables the vehicle to achieve 0-60 mph in just 3.9 seconds, proving that sustainable mobility doesn’t compromise performance. The 63 kWh battery pack, strategically mounted in a carbon-fibre tray, provides a practical range of 200 miles.

Beyond the numbers, Charge Cars has invested considerable effort in the vehicle’s dynamics. The sophisticated four-wheel-drive system and advanced suspension setup, featuring MacPherson struts and wishbone configuration, ensure the ’67 delivers a driving experience that matches its striking appearance.

The exterior design of the ’67 pays homage to the iconic 1967 Ford Mustang Fastback, but Charge Cars has elevated every aspect with contemporary refinements. The new steel body shell and composite panels maintain the muscular presence of the original while incorporating modern elements like flush door handles and distinctive LED lighting signatures.

Inside, the careful balance between classic and contemporary continues. The interior features a minimalist dashboard housing two integrated displays, premium sports seats, and an array of modern conveniences. The bespoke user interface, developed in collaboration with Arrival, provides seamless connectivity and intelligent features including traffic light recognition and adaptive cruise control.

Limited edition luxury

Understanding the desire for exclusivity in the luxury market, Charge Cars has limited production to just 499 units. Each vehicle is meticulously crafted at their UK facility, with customers invited to participate in an extensive personalisation programme at their Customer Studio near London Heathrow Airport.

The bespoke nature of each vehicle reflects Charge Cars’ commitment to creating truly unique automobiles. From exterior finishes to interior materials, every aspect can be tailored to the owner’s preferences, ensuring no two vehicles are identical. This level of customisation, combined with the limited production run, positions the ’67 as a highly coveted collector’s item.
